Fellow Bio:

Originally from Garden Grove, CA, Jennifer Truong graduated from UCLA in 2015 with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in conservation biology. During her time at UCLA, she was part of a research team that focused on the effectiveness of campus sustainability projects and helped with analyzing landscape factors affecting urban insect biodiversity for her senior capstone project. After her graduation, she worked as a GIS intern for Orange County Parks. In the fall of 2015, she joined the CivicSpark fellowship program, where she and two other fellows (shout-out to Kelly and Grant!) were assigned to work with a non-profit organization called Water LA. Their service project was to work with the City of Los Angeles to incorporate Water LA’s “urban acupuncture” approach into their water legislation. She currently works as a secretary at one of the churches near UCLA, but she hopes to work in the environmental field again one day because of the amazing fellows, CivicSpark staff, and local government employees she had the chance to meet during her time as a fellow. She plans on attending graduate school in the near future to receive her Master’s degree and conduct research relating to climate change and either urban ecology or conversation. In the meantime, she currently volunteers at the Natural History Museum of LA County as an interpreter and is attending online classes to get her GIS certificate.s.
