Serena Pelka is from Ontario, Canada where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, Honours degree in Environmental Governance from the University of Guelph. She has volunteered and engaged in research focused on environmental justice and social equity and is dedicated to building community resilience through the intersection of these issues. Serena has worked at various non-profits throughout San Diego and is thrilled to have the opportunity to engage with local government as a CivicSpark Fellow at the City of Del Mar. As a Fellow, Serena is eager to contribute to the city’s commitment to sustainability through the implementation of their Climate Action Plan using knowledge she’s gained as she completes a Master of Development Practice degree at the University of Waterloo. Serena hopes to learn about climate policy in local government and promote comprehensive climate initiatives within the community.
