Lian Mae Tualla

Project(s): City of Long Beach Email: ltualla@civicspark.lgc.org Fellow Bio:

Born in the rural mountains of Ilocos Norte, Philippines and raised in the agricultural town of Santa Maria, California, Lian Mae (she/they) has always been surrounded by the natural environment. Living in diaspora in the Central Coast (Chumash land), she was exposed to different inequities and took an interest in social justice and activism, often using art as a respite and as a way of imagining a better future. At UCLA, she then expanded her knowledge and experiences in community organizing, environmental justice, urban planning, and digital media. Lian Mae is excited to utilize all of these skills as she pursues a second term at Long Beach, working on the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. In the future, she hopes to pursue graduate degrees in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning.
